Just like that it was Dan's last day of holiday. We decided to spend it together recreating Nic's youth.
This is where it all started:
Nic came to America to be a camp counselor at Camp Takajo. Somehow our paths led to each other. It is a Christmas Hallmark Movie.
Dan and I heard countless stories of Long Lake and all of his amazing friends (Paddy, Geoff, Helen, Randy, Dan 2.0).
I think it is pretty cool that this big, wide world has so many places and ways that Nic and I's paths crossed, connected and wound together. I believe it was destiny.
Nic believes something cynical and grumpy. We will not ask him.
And then we headed into Portland to go to Three Dollar Dewey's for a drink and a few more stories.
We also had a pretzel charcuterie board which was to die for.
We checked out the bit of the Berlin Wall that Portland hosts to remember the Cold War. It was powerful to me to see as I have never seen any pieces of the wall before.
It rained a lot in Maine. Did I mention that? I am glad I brought my jacket and socks.
One of the best parts of hanging out with Dan is the everyday moments; the knitting on his porch in the morning sun, Kristina and Mae hugging it out with Tiny, doing dishes, cooking dinner together, laughing, having my brother get to know Nic.
So much love.
