We said goodbye to Morocco, and returned Adil’s Car to him early on Saturday morning, Adil seemed very happy to have his car back. He seemed even happier that we had not wrecked it, scratched it, or damaged it all. This was an act of God.
Just like that we were back in Spain to see how our dear Ramona had faired while we were away.
We spent just a very few moments in Algeciras, Spain trying to locate our car and get on the road for Cadiz. Fortunately Ramona was right where we had left her.
The lady was quite happy to see us, and we were even happier to see her. Just like that we were popped into the car and on our way to Cadiz.
Upon reaching Cadiz we realized we had less than 24 hours in this quiet Spanish town, Nic and I also realized immediately how much we wished we had much more time. Cadiz is beautiful, laidback and full of interesting history.
It is also filled with churches, and a huge cathedral. We sat in the back of this small church as their Saturday evening Mass began to fill up. It was beautiful.
And then we found the Cathedral, which backs the ocean. Leave it to the Catholics to grab some prime real estate.
Poor Nic is not feeling well, but he is such a trooper, he just keeps going. His general health challenges are flaring up a bit, which is not helped by our friend Montezuma. Don’t drink the water in Morocco, friends. This advice comes directly from Nic and this sad face.
He rallied for this picture with me and the ocean.
Then we ate pizza - NOT couscous.
These are the views from the top of our hotel.
Our hotel was built in an ancient tower, near the center of town. It was a great location, and a fancy spot. We did our best to whirlwind around Cadiz, and we both put it back on our list to visit again. The primary purpose for Cadiz on the itinerary was proximity to Morocco and our next stop, Portugal. We are definitely on a whirlwind tour, and not an exhaustive examination of each town. I recognize that this makes for a more superficial tour. I accept this fact, and recognize we are covering a lot of ground in a short period of time. I also know that Nic is running on empty. We slept late and then pushed on to Portugal where I hope Nic will recover a bit. The drive from Cadiz to Lagos is four hours, which means that Nic has had several fairly long driving days in a row.
Nic’s childhood friend, Vince and his wife Jackie have a house in Lagos, Portugal which they generously offered to let us stay in. We were thrilled to accept and to see Vince and Jackie. You might remember this, when I met them for the first time. I was disappointed to learn that they did not bring the dog.
We made it in last night and have unpacked the bags, had a wonderful dinner, and looked at the beach. Stay tuned for more from the beautiful Portugal. Now for a nap.
