June 23
We arrived in Lagos midafternoon on Sunday. We did a quick catch up with Jackie and Vince and then headed down to the beach restaurant. Vince made our dinner reservations back in March. This place is where it’s at, apparently. They had a great band playing, and the food and Sangria were great.
Vince and Jackie are quite the dancers, so we all made a night of it, dancing into the night. It was great fun. Nic and I don’t do that often, except at nieces weddings, so it was great.
The next morning we headed down to the beach near the condo where Vince and Jackie have their place. It was stunning.
Nic and I came home and napped for the afternoon. Having this much fun is hard work. I am also hoping Nic can gain some ground on his health and feel better.
As a rule I do not like Sangria. I have found that I like Portuguese Sangria though. I am taking pictures of all the Sangria we taste so I can remember it and maybe make some of my own when I get home.
It has been a quiet couple of days with good company, good food, and rest. I finished my book and I’ve had a chance to pick another one.
I have been spending time thinking and reflecting on our experiences in Morocco. Something that I noticed while I was there is that there was no one with glasses, or wheel chairs, or casts, or other medical supports. It was clear that this is not because people don’t need them. Instead it is because they are not available to the general population. It made me so thankful for my glasses, for dental care, and for my doctor. But mostly thankful for the care we are able to access. I know it’s not perfect, and many people are not getting the care they need, but it’s there. Traveling is a good way to remember what you have.
